Vocations in Ministry
Explore the variety of ways to use your gifts in churches, schools, and ministry organizations.
The Harbor Leadership Collective believes the work of the Church is carried forward through many different gifts and callings. While pastoral, DCE, deaconess, and teaching roles are vital, the mission of the Church also depends on leaders serving in a wide range of positions—from ministry coordination and communications to operations, administration, and community engagement. Below you'll find current opportunities where individuals can use their talents to serve. We are currently highlighting 19 vocations and will continue expanding this list as new opportunities emerge.
Administration

Every ministry needs people who help keep things organized, coordinated, and moving forward. Serving in administration uses gifts like planning, communication, organization, and attention to detail to support the daily life of the church. From coordinating schedules and managing information to helping teams stay connected, administrative leaders create the structure that allows ministry to flourish. If you enjoy bringing order to complexity and helping others succeed, your gifts can make a meaningful impact in supporting the church’s mission.
AV/Tech

Behind every worship service and event is a team helping ensure the message is seen, heard, and experienced clearly. Serving in AV or technology allows individuals with skills in sound, video, lighting, livestreaming, or media to support the church’s mission in powerful ways. If you enjoy working with technology, problem-solving, or helping create meaningful experiences for others, your gifts can play an important role in helping the church communicate and connect with people both in the room and beyond.
Accounting & Finance

Faithful stewardship is an important part of the church’s mission. Serving in accounting or finance allows individuals with gifts in budgeting, financial management, and attention to detail to help ensure resources are used wisely and responsibly. From tracking expenses and preparing reports to helping leaders plan for the future, these roles support the sustainability and impact of ministry. If you enjoy working with numbers and helping organizations operate with clarity and integrity, your gifts can play a meaningful role in supporting the church’s work.
Children's Ministry

Children’s ministry plays an important role in helping young people experience the love of God and grow in faith from an early age. Those who serve in this area help create welcoming, engaging environments where children can learn, ask questions, and build relationships within the church community. If you enjoy connecting with children and helping them grow, your gifts can help shape the next generation of faith and leaders.
Communication & Social Media

Clear communication helps the church stay connected and share its message with the community. Serving in communications and social media allows individuals with gifts in writing, design, storytelling, photography, or digital media to help tell the story of what God is doing through the church. From managing social platforms and creating graphics to sharing announcements and capturing meaningful moments, these roles help people stay informed and engaged. If you enjoy creative communication and using media to connect people, your talents can help extend the reach and impact of the church’s mission.
Counseling

The church is often a place where people seek guidance, healing, and hope during life’s most challenging moments. Serving in counseling allows individuals with gifts in listening, empathy, and wise guidance to walk alongside others as they navigate struggles, relationships, and questions of faith. Whether through formal counseling roles or supportive care ministries, these leaders help create a safe space where people can be heard and encouraged. If you feel called to support others through compassion and thoughtful care, your gifts can help bring comfort and clarity to those who need it most.
Event Planning

Gatherings play an important role in bringing people together for worship, learning, service, and community. Serving in event planning allows individuals with gifts in organization, creativity, and coordination to help create meaningful experiences for others. From preparing logistics and managing details to welcoming participants and ensuring everything runs smoothly, event planners help create spaces where people can connect and grow. If you enjoy bringing people together and turning ideas into well-organized experiences, your gifts can help strengthen the life and mission of the church.
IT Support

By utilizing IT support, churches can expand their impact through technology. Although not every church requires these roles, many nonprofit organizations rely heavily on this support to effectively carry out their mission. If you possess skills talents in this field, you can help the church maintain virtual connections and provide them with the necessary tools and resources to succeed.
Pastoral

Pastoral ministry is at the heart of guiding and nurturing the spiritual life of the church community. Those who serve as pastors provide leadership, teaching, care, and encouragement, helping people grow in faith, navigate life’s challenges, and live out their calling. If you feel called to shepherd, inspire, and serve others with compassion and wisdom, your gifts can make a lasting impact in the life of the church and the wider community.
